Conference Tours
Expand your conference experience with a captivating conference tour. There will be several different tours to choose from.
All conference tours will take place on Thursday 9th October 2025. There are 12 tours to choose from. Pick up and drop off will be at Sarit Center. The tours will start between 6 AM and 8 AM in the morning, and finish between 5 PM and 7 PM. A detailed schedule for each tour will be provided later.
Please note, there is a fee for all conference tours. This includes transportation, entrance fees, lunch and bottled water.


Tour 1: Brown’s Cheese Factory, Maramba Tea factory and Giraffe Centre

Start your day with a guided tour of the Maramba Tea Factory, where you’ll witness the transformation of fresh green leaves into Kenya’s signature black CTC (crush, tear, curl) tea. Walk through the processing floors, discover the intricate stages of production, and conclude with a curated tea tasting. Learn the delicate art of tea appreciation as you sample different grades and flavor profiles of Kenya’s world-renowned teas.
Next, continue to the rolling hills of Limuru for a relaxing afternoon at Brown’s Cheese Factory & Farm. Begin with a farm-fresh welcome snack before touring the cheese caves and uncovering the craft behind 8–10 varieties of artisanal cheese. Then, indulge in a guided tasting paired with homemade crackers, chutneys, and house wines. Your visit concludes with a wholesome seasonal lunch, served in the serene, picturesque setting of the farm.
In the afternoon, trade countryside calm for a touch of wildlife magic. Just outside Nairobi, the Giraffe Centre offers a rare opportunity to come face-to-face with the endangered Rothschild’s giraffe. Founded by the African Fund for Endangered Wildlife, the centre blends conservation education with a hands-on encounter—an unforgettable experience for visitors of all ages.

Nestled on 13,000 hectares of open savanna, this ILRI-managed site offers a dynamic mix of research, nature, and community innovation. Following a scenic drive through Machakos County, we visit Kenya Agricultural & Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) Katumani, a pioneering dryland agriculture research center. Since 1969, KALRO Katumani has been transforming arid farming through resilient crop varieties, livestock innovations, and rural empowerment. Meet the researchers, walk through demonstration plots, and explore the poultry farm, where innovations in improved breeds and feeding systems are helping farmers boost productivity in challenging dryland conditions. Tour 9: KALRO Naivasha and Dairy Farming
Advancing Dairy Research for East Africa Tour

Begin your day at Kenya Agricultural & Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) Naivasha, located just 100 km from Nairobi along the Nairobi–Nakuru highway. KALRO-DRI Naivasha is a key institute under Kenya’s agricultural research systems. Positioned in a semi-arid ecological zone, the institute focuses on dairy innovations that thrive even in challenging conditions. Explore ongoing research on improved dairy breeds, fodder and feeds as well as dairy product development. See trials for drought-tolerant fodder crops and pasture systems. Meet researchers working to boost productivity and resilience in the dairy value chain.
While touring the station, you will also see one of the stall-feeding trials currently taking place. The manure from this stall is used in a small (12m³) fixed-dome biogas plant located on-site. This forms part of ongoing research on circular approaches to dairy production, with basic measurements such as gas quality and quantity being collected.
In the afternoon, after a short transfer, visit a nearby small-scale dairy farm that partners with KALRO and applies its innovations. Experience a guided tour of the feeding systems and livestock housing, and learn how farmers apply KALRO-supported dairy technologies such as feeding, conservation and hygiene practices.

Tour 10: Maasai Nickson Parmisa`s, the Wildlife Foundation Centre Farm and Kajiado Modernized Pastoral Farms

Begin the day at the homestead of Nickson Parmisa, a renowned Maasai conservationist whose life and work embody the harmony between cultural heritage and ecological stewardship. From there, continue to the Wildlife Foundation Centre, a grassroots hub championing coexistence between wildlife and local pastoralist communities. Here, learn how landowners and conservationists collaborate to secure vital wildlife corridors across the savanna—spaces that sustain biodiversity while supporting local livelihoods.
In the afternoon, the tour shifts to a technical exploration through Kajiado and Kiserian, showcasing innovative livestock interventions aligned with the World Bank’s De-risking, Inclusion, and Value Enhancement of Pastoral Economies (DRIVE) project. Participants will visit farms pioneering irrigated pasture and silage production to improve feed availability and drought resilience, as well as feedlot systems that blend traditional grazing with supplementation. The journey also features a commercial beef finishing enterprise linking pastoral producers to high-value markets, and a center for advanced reproductive technologies, where tools like embryo transfer are accelerating genetic improvement.
Together, these experiences weave a powerful story of heritage, conservation, and innovation—showing how pastoral economies can become more resilient, productive, and inclusive, while remaining deeply connected to people and place.



Tour 11: Nairobi National Park, Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, Utamaduni Craft Centre and Mamba Village
Wildlife & Culture Day Tour – A Classic Nairobi Experience

Kick off your day with an early morning game drive in a Land Cruiser at Nairobi National Park, just 7 km from the city centre. Against the surreal backdrop of Nairobi’s skyline, spot lions, giraffes, buffaloes, and endangered black rhinos roaming freely. With over 400 bird species and East Africa’s oldest national park status, it’s a remarkable safari experience without leaving the city. Next, head to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust Nursery, located within the park.
